Why isn't James Bernsen helping the retirees put the $200.00 increase resolution into place. This resolution has been approved in various locals.

Why does the recording secretary at local 1506 go on about how wonderful being part of the union is when he is working for a partial salary. He is working for less than the past recording secretaries have made. What is his story???

We need to EDUCATE / AGITATE / ORGANIZE NOW to disqualify the crooked union leaders we currently have in place!!!

We need to start using the same tactics $McCarron use to use with non-union contractors, such as the following:

·         Picket $McCarron's home and that of his relatives.

·         Go to their place of worship and picket outside while services are in session.

·         Picket Richard C. Blum and Dianne Feinstein's home and offices.

·         Picket Ron Tutor's home and office and the Van Nuys airport where he parks his two jets.

Let's show these wise guys SHYSTERS that they can stick their political power and where the sun don't shine, along with all the money they have stole and are stealing from us. This goes specially for Feinstein, Tutor and Blum.

Working Class Members this is our most important duty and steps to take in order to get back our union. $McCarron is just a puppet to those three.

$McCarron the SHYSTER said he was going to New York to clean up the unions and get rid of organized crime that controlled them. What this SHYSTER did is go to New York to assault (take over) the unions with his armed goons in the middle of the night. This was paid for with our money. What he did is appoint his own lackeys who are now being investigated for the same thing the previous leadership was busted for.

The latest CARPENTER magazine which you'll see below, are the lies that $McCarron promises in Southern California. This is the Bull Shit he wants us to believe and also wants the Department of Labor -Pension (PWBA). IS he making these promises because they are being investigated by the FBI, Department of Justice?????? If so, why aren't they informing the members that this is going on and this will turn into another New York.

For how long will the VACATION checks be coming???? The last time VACATION checks were issued, the IRS was involved because they union was not paying taxes and then all of a sudden the checks stopped for about ten years. Now they are back again, what a coincidence!

What is this thing about a $1.00 raise for Southern California Carpenters. Don't they know that we are aware that in New York the going rate is $30.98 and hour. Why aren't our carpenters making this much???? This just goes to show you how much power the contractors such as Ron Tutor have over Douglas $McCarron!!!!

What about this Benefit Multiplier, who does this really benefit???? It benefits everyone in the administration. What percentage of the working members works over 1800 hours a year???? Maybe 5% to 7%???? Maybe???? I would like a serious answer to this question from the DOL/PWBA (Department of Labor, Pension Welfare Benefits Administration)?? We would like for David Ganz, Director of the DOL/PWBA to start a serious investigation about this. Any of you out there who would like to contact him, his phone number is (626)583-7876, XT 114. The DOL needs to understand this is our pension benefits and we pay they salaries of the DOL as well as the salaries of everyone that works for the Brotherhood and International.

All members should realize that the retirees only received a 5% increase in pension benefits, for the average member this comes out to about $40.00 to $70.00 a month, retroactive for six months only.

The management (BA's, Organizers etc...) have given themselves a $200.00 pension increase retroactive from 1991.

Why does the Joe Carpenter check show the Carpenters Pension Trustees as the ones issuing the check when we all know that the ones contributing to this vacation fund are the workers and the companies. There is $1.00 that comes from the member and $1.00 that comes from the employer!!!! How far do they want to go with this Bull Shit???

Why don't they inform the members of Southern California wants $McCarron did in New York, by holding up the retirees pension benefits and charging them $180.00 a month for medical and dental.

Second Vacation Check Is On Its Way

·         Get ready for a great summer! Union members who work under the Carpenters Master Labor Agreement should begin checking their mail boxes around July I for the second vacation check issued since the Vacation Trust was re-instituted in the 1998 contract. This check should represent $2 for every eligible hour worked from September through February. Even better, the taxes have already been paid on this Income.

·         "Member solidarity during the Contract '98 drive made this possible, member activity in our organizing efforts will help make sure we can continue to improve our wage and benefit standards," said James Bernsen, Executive Secretary Treasurer for the Regional Council.

·         Enjoy your well deserved vacation check! Remember to always keep your check stubs so that you can verify your vacation checks when they arrive.

Carpenters Also Looking
Forward to July 1 Pay Raise

·         July I will be a great day for Union carpenters for more than one reason. In addition to a vacation check arriving around that time, Union carpenters working under the Carpenters Master Labor Agreement will get a $1 an hour raise on their checks beginning July 1, 1999.

·         This raise is part of the contract negotiated last year. That contract also includes raises in 2000 and 2001.

·         In addition to the good news about the vacation checks and the pay raise, Union carpenters will be glad to know that the labor and management Trustees of the Carpenters Pension Fund for Southern California recently voted to give our retirees a 1 3th check again this November, and have voted to significantly increase the Carpenters pension once again.

·         The Trustees voted to increase the maximum pension benefit multiplier for years 1991-1998 from $175 to $200 and to increase the $120 pension benefit multiplier to $175 for years 1999 through 2002.

·         These amounts are for the maximum credit, which is obtained by working at least 1,800 hours a year. The pension benefit credits for years with less hours are based on a sliding scale, the exact amounts can be obtained from the Carpenters Pension Trust for Southern California by calling 213-386-8590.

Why haven't the members been informed who the new Trustees for the Pension Trust are???? Why are many BA's in Los Angeles, complaining that Doug's brother Mike McCarron is sitting on the board of trustees????? Besides being Doug's little Brother and his mother asking Doug to give little Mike a big position, these BA's want to know what his qualifications are to be holding this position???? Besides getting so nervous that he sticks his hands in his pockets before he speaks in public, what are his qualifications????? Maybe reading PLAYBOY magazine in the local office???? Trying to play cops and robbers with one of his unloaded guns, which he keeps in the trunk of his car. Is this the type of guy we need watching over our pension funds??

Some Business Agents we have talked to say that if the election would of been under a secret ballot, then how many agents would of voted for Doug's little brother Mike McCarron?? Probably zero votes. This would of also applied when he became President of the District Council in So. California.

What about James Bernsen??? What are his qualifications and why does he make a hefty $184,000 a year???? He's got two pensions when he retires, his expenses are paid and he drives a union car. Why??? so he can read the Racing Form in the District Council office?? He's never been a carpenter or worn tools. He sure knows how to say yes to everything $McCarron has to say.

Let's talk about trustee Floyd Clay who welcomes CHINESE delegations, does he do this for Richard Blum. Maybe he is a welcoming committee for Dick Blum's Chinese guests, I wonder if he wears a Tux when he does this job?? What are his qualifications for being a trustee for our pension????

Bob Sheets the GHOST Business Agent. When has he been involved in the activities of a Business Agent or anything to do with the union, such as being a worker or having filed grievances on behalf of a worker??? His real position is handling all the money issues for the District Council, such as filing the LM-2 reports. He is cooked up in the District Council accounting office pushing paper and working with numbers. He is the one who recommended the BULLY Administrator to $McCarron, he is Ron Schoen who currently holds the administrator's position and all he knows how to do is harass members when they go in to claim their pension rights. Remember we paid over $200,000.00 for a settlement of a lawsuit where Ron Schoen harassed an employee of the Administration. Case number available upon request.

$MCCARRON'S LATEST ANTI UNION TACTICS

Why doesn't $McCarron send CAL-OSHA to the subway tunnel job site where there have been so many deaths on Ron Tutor's job site???

Why did a week ago in Southern California, $McCarron called all BA's to the District Council to sign an agreement that they will not sue for overtime pay. This happened right after five (5) BA's sued for overtime pay. Besides this being anti union and illegal, $McCarron is destroying all labor related accomplishments.

WHY DOES $MCCARRON WANT COMPLETE POWER IN NEW YORK

In New York carpenters make $30.98 an hour, in California they make $24.00 an hour and Ron Tutor and Richard Blum would love to pay less than $24.00 an hour, that is why they send their "Delivery Guy $McCarron" to New York to destroy what has been accomplished in the labor movement and to continue merging unions and taking away power and money from the rank-and-file and the PENSION. Is this to invest in his private businesses such as PERINI CONSTRUCTION?????

What about the fact the he appointed his "LAP DOG" Tom Dumford in New York. Tom was always around $McCarron trying to act like he was protecting him. Did $McCarron approve the use of apprentices to build Dumford's home in exchange for protective services.

Why wasn't Doug $McCarron at the delegates meeting in Southern California. Why isn't he yelling out very proudly "I AM DOUG MCCARRON" as he would do at picket lines when the labor police showed up. Where are you Doug?????? Don't want to show you face around town????? Are you telling little brother Mike to keep his mouth shut in the meeting??? Remember Doug, your little brother has not always agreed with you, but was made to agree with you, as when the Striking Drywallers he made a comment that using illegals for labor movements was like GIVING A CORPSE A PEDICURE. Armando Vergara was very upset and you Doug, obviously sided with Armando and stopped little Mike from saying these things.

It as been confirmed that $McCarron wants to move the International to Las Vegas and demo DC headquarters and build a brand new building that will be rented out as offices. They plan to make $10million dollars in rentals.

Let's go back to 1986 when McCarron wanting to be a hero, sued the Pension Trust and got rid of all the Trustees, let's face it he does not have the brains to do that by himself, he was guided by his buddies Ron Tutor and Richard Blum. He is nothing but their puppet on a string. This is why we now have these leaches (Tutor and Blum) running our union.

The next thing $McCarron did was merge all the unions, this way he would take away authority and autonomy from the union and its members and at the same time take over the Pension Funds.

$McCarron then came up with a program called "WORK PRESERVATION", in Southern California. Under this program the members worked for 80% of their salaries, this program was mostly applied toward Ron Tutor's company Tutor-Saliba Construction, so he can take advantage of cheaper labor. Why did Tutor have this privilege and why were the smaller companies screwed. The reason for this program, SUPPOSEDLY was to help out the smaller companies, at least that's what they told members.

A very similar situation to what is happening in San Francisco happened with the CLERICAL workers inside the Carpenters Administration. These are the people that do all the work for the Health and Welfare and the Pension Fund. These folks were picketing in front of the 500-520 SO. Virgil buildings on their lunch hour to get better benefits and to be allowed to become unionized. $McCarron just looked out his office window making snide remarks and laughing.

In 1992 $McCarron brought in illegals from Mexico to act as Mercenaries in the very publicized cause called 'STRIKING DRYWALLERS'. Longtime members of the union were bypassed for jobs that were giving to these illegals, who weren't even carpenters. These illegals were given all kinds of perks, the union paid their bills their monthly rent payments and gave them food (Local 409 kept boxes with food to distribute to them), in exchange for illegal acts of aggression and destruction towards non union contractors and their job sites. For this we had to pay anywhere between $3-$5 million in a lawsuit filed by some of these contractors, THIS IS THE CASE NUMBER CV92-1835. Why did the "DELIVERY GUY $McCarron " fire Roger Newman???? Was it
because he refused to sign checks for large sums of money?????

Now Tom Dumford from Southern California of Local 440 is in Newman's
place. What kind of guarantee do the members have that Dumford is
looking out for the members and not just a "DELIVERY GUY $McCarron" yes
man lackey.

Many members of Dumford's union say that in 1992-1993 when Dumford was
in charge of the Apprenticeship Education, he built his home in
Riverside by APPRENTICES in return for credit hours????? Why was he not
liked the members and some of his peers??? Is he the YES man that
everybody says he is, if so he won't help the membership in New York!!!
Is it true that some of his close family members won't speak to him for
helping $McCarron taking Democracy from our UNIONS???? No union member
deserves these officials that $McCarron appoints.

The "DELIVERY GUY $McCarron" should realize that we the members don't
want to be an ATM Machine for the Democratic Party. $McCarron the
contribution fanatic!!!!

Why did Joel Dressler take away our right to freedom of speech??? It was right after Grana called Joel on the fact that someone misrepresented himself as a union member/worker when he was an attorney in Los Angeles. Joe told Grana at one point that he only gave him a minute to talk about this situation, when Grana gave Joel documentation from the State Bar Association. Joel's answer to this was maybe it was a relative who was the attorney not the guy that wrote into the network. Joel, told Grana that he was going to pull the plug because he was sick and tired of the BS and of the personal attacks, when we know that the problem arose when the contract were discussed on the network and $McCarron was very upset. Is the reason James Bernsen receives such a high salary is so Doug's brother Mike can be paid at this rate when he is appointed president of the District Council? What warrants Bernsen's salary increase of $60,000 in two years, when all he does besides agitating the members with his political lies and propaganda about Republican politicians in the Carpenters Magazine is check out the horse racing results at his desk. I wonder how many times James Bernsen has had a hammer in his hand? Does he even know how to handle a hammer? Has Bernsen ever worked as a carpenter?? Has he worn the tools of the trade?? How does Bernsen know what the members needs are? These are the people that Douglas $McCarron has put in place to represent the members!!!

Last but not least, the following Business Rep. must be given mention.

. WOW!!!! An increase of $60,000, Bob Sheets must really work hard for the members, he should show us all the charges he has filed on behalf of members. When he gets time represent the members, is still a mystery as he is always locked in his office doing accounting work! When will the DOL do some investigating as to why Bob Sheets gets paid as a Business Rep., when what he actually does is run the accounting office for the District Council.

Sources report that Government Investigators will be at the NYDC for several weeks collecting evidence, and that this is the largest active investigation going on with the DOL and The DOJ

$McCarron and Conboy won't be able to pass the buck to anyone else this time.

Feds Launch probe of Carpenter Fund!!!!!

THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT of labor has opened an inquiry into the handling of carpenters union benefit funds, according to government and union sources.  The inquiry comes after union officials awarded the management of the New York Carpenters District Council's $1.7 billion fund to Chicago based Zenith Administrator.  Zenith's selection came as fund trustees voted to charge retired carpenters up to $180 a month for benefits, saying they needed the money to stay afloat. Many members protested that the fund was healthy and told federal officials they suspected political moves to force retirees to drop their membership.  Labor Department investigators visited the union's Hudson St. offices last month, collecting records on Zenith's selection.  The inquiry comes as a group of rank-and-file carpenters is planning a protest tomorrow, at Federal Court in Manhattan against the continued receivership of the District Council. National carpenters chief Douglas McCarron took over the council two years ago, citing corruption. Union officials didn't return calls.

UNDER LMRDA REGULATIONS, MCGUINESS SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO HOLD OFFICE IN THE UNION FOR A PERIOD OF THIRTEEN YEARS. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE, THEN, THAT HE WAS APPOINTED TO SECRETARY-TREASURER OF THE BUILDING TRADES?! When and where do they publish the openings available at the carpenters/contractors cooperation committee, so the workers know these positions are available, so they can apply. What about all the other positions at the district council? Do they publish when there are any openings so they can hire from the rank and file?? There are many qualified rank and file workers were the openings for the workers!! They give these positions to their buddies!
